Temporary work in Monaco: a booming sector

Every year, temporary work plays an important role in Monaco's job market.

Data from 2024 confirms that temporary work is no longer marginal: it is growing in importance and volume, and is establishing itself as a pillar of the private workforce.

Key indicators for 2024

In 2024, the 18 temporary employment agencies registered in Monaco generated total revenue of €321.7 million.

The number of temporary workers rose to 7,808 in 2024, approximately 1,000 more than in 2023 (+13.5%).

Temporary work accounted for 12.9% of all private sector employees.

The number of hours worked in temporary employment exceeded 11 million hours for the first time in a year: a record.

Other notable data:

In 2024, 56,654 temporary assignments were carried out.
These assignments represented approximately 2.6 million days worked.

Distribution of assignments: which sectors recruit through temporary work?

Temporary work in Monaco remains highly concentrated in certain sectors, depending on specific and seasonal needs.

  • The construction/building and public works sector dominates, accounting for 42.1% of temporary assignments in 2024.
This sector also accounts for the majority of temporary work days: it is the mainstay of temporary work in Monaco.
  • In second place is accommodation and catering, with 20.4% of assignments, although many of these are short-term (often one day) rather than long-term assignments.
  • Next come a variety of sectors such as support services, administrative or technical activities, in which temporary work can be used to provide occasional reinforcement as needed.

This sector profile shows that temporary work is mainly used to respond to peaks in demand (construction sites, tourist season, catering, etc.) rather than to fill permanent jobs in stable sectors.
